Why Values Are the Foundation of Wealth Activism®

Your values shape every major decision in life, whether consciously or unconsciously. They influence the way you spend, invest, and plan for the future. Yet, many people have never taken the time to clearly define their core values, let alone align their financial strategy with them. This is where the values cards exercise comes in.

The Values Cards Exercise: A New Way to Look at Wealth

At the beginning of our Wealth Activism process, we engage clients in a powerful exercise to uncover their personal and family values. We present a set of 15 values cards, each representing a fundamental principle that could guide financial and life decisions—things like security, freedom, generosity, legacy, adventure, and family.

Each individual selects five values that resonate most with them. When working with couples or families, this exercise often leads to eye-opening conversations. Partners may discover they share the same values, strengthening their financial alignment, or they may realise their values differ—creating an opportunity to bridge perspectives and find a shared vision.

Why Values Matter

By establishing core values upfront, we create a foundation for all financial decisions. Instead of simply focusing on wealth accumulation, we anchor decisions in purpose. For example:

  • If spending time with your close circle is a top value, we explore how wealth can support meaningful family experiences, education, and intergenerational security.
  • If freedom is a priority, we strategise on ways to provide time flexibility and lifestyle choices.
  • If sharing your wealth ranks high, we develop giving strategies that create impact while ensuring financial stability.

This process turns financial planning from a transactional experience into a deeply personal and empowering journey.

A Roadmap for Decision-Making

Once values are defined, they become a guiding framework. When faced with financial decisions—whether it’s purchasing property, transitioning out of a business, or structuring intergenerational wealth—clients can ask, Does this align with my values? This simple question can help prevent impulsive decisions and ensure that every action contributes to a life of purpose and fulfilment.

Aligning Wealth With What Matters Most

Wealth Activism® is about more than managing money—it’s about using wealth intentionally to create the life you envision. By identifying and prioritising your values, you gain clarity and confidence in your financial journey. Instead of chasing arbitrary financial goals, you begin designing a wealth strategy that supports what truly matters.

At Paxton Bridge, we believe that wealth should work for you—not the other way around. That’s why our process starts with values. Ready to uncover yours? Let’s start the conversation.
